About me

I am an engineering manager and full-stack architect in Grand Rapids, MI, with 19 years of building software and leading the people who build it.

Right now I lead multiple development teams at Launch NTT Data, owning sprint planning, delivery, and team health across client work for companies like Stellantis, Campbell's, Mitsubishi, Axon, and Aramco. Before that I was Director of Engineering at Vectorform, where I grew a department of onshore and offshore engineers. I then led my team through the Vectorform to NTT Data acquisition.

I came up through hands-on engineering. At Meijer I went from software engineer to lead solutions architect, led the team building a next-generation Azure point of sale system, and established company-wide API standards that engineering teams adopted. I still do backend development today, because architectural and code feedback only carries weight when it comes from someone who is still in the code.

How I lead

I am people first. I spend my time growing high performers, supporting engineers who are struggling, and hiring well. I would rather coach someone toward owning a solution than push them toward a deadline. I partner closely with product managers to keep work pointed in the right direction, and I stay technical enough to have a real say in architectural decisions.

I have also spent a lot of time bringing AI into the software development lifecycle. I treat it as a process change, not just a speed boost, and I care about keeping engineering judgment at every point that matters.

Outside the day job

Since 2020 I have built and run a cloud-hosted audio streaming platform for on-hold audio, with employee and client portals, telecom integrations, and automated billing. I also run MittenSites, building websites for West Michigan small businesses, and I am building Keel, a weekly routine app.
